Default Anyone tried using AutoMeter Dashlink in early XKR / XK8 ?

bought the AutoMeter Dashlink hoping it would work with a 2002 XKR. When plugged into the OBD-II port the power light on the module does come on, but it never can link up with my ipad via a Bluetooth connection between the AutoMeter Dashlink and the tablet.. Our 2012 Ford Focus has no trouble linking up with the tablet. The Dashlink is suppose to work with all OBD-II compliant vehicles. I thought the '02 XKR's were comfortably in that group... ??

The car is indeed OBD II compliant.

Unfortunately some tools say they are but are not...

FWIW, the OBDII data is only available over the ISO-9141 protocol for our cars. Our cars also feature separate CAN and SCP networks, but OBDII is not available over those. Maybe there is a setting in the app where you can "force" ISO-9141 (sometimes referred to as serial).

I assume this is the same Dashlink and iPad as used previously, so we are not talking about Bluetooth pairing, etc.

Best of luck , keep us posted.

AutoMeter tech service admitted to me that the DashLink does not connect well with many early cars. That is not mentioned in their ads.

Returned it,

The dashlink now sold is using Bluetooth, but pairing was not the issue. The dashlink module is just robust. Enough to read info from the early OBD-II cars.

You may well be able to get the data over CAN (and some via SCP) but would need atypical software. (Certainly works with my STR.)

Without a back channel to the engineering department at AutoMeter, there's no way to discover the how they engineering the product. Likely I'd not know the language they would speak anyways. The customer service they offer doesn't inspire consumer confidence in cases like this . A little more R&D would've made their product more universal.

There are companies, MSD comes to mind, where you can actually talk to an engineer whenyou have an unusual request
