Default Auto Headlights and Windshield Wiper?

Hi All!

A few weeks ago, the "pulse" function for my windshield wipers (when you pull the stalk toward you for just one wipe) became erratic; mostly inop, but occasionally it has mysteriously worked. It's not a big deal - just momentarily flip the stalk up to intermittent and you get the same thing.

This morning, I noticed that my Automatic Headlights wouldn't turn off even with the sun shining directly on the sensor.

I'm not a big believer in simultaneous failures, so my gut says these two are related. But how?

Any ideas?

Thanks guys!

It may be the stalk itself, known problem and available on eBay.

I would check the rear view mirror; simultaneous failures do occur but I would imagine it would take an 'event' of some sort to affect two different systems. However, the mirror not only houses the sensor for the 'auto-light' function, but also the rain sensing wiper sensor as well, and I imagine that this is where two worlds collide.

The mirror? My sunlight sensor is the little black dome on the right side of the dash board cover.

I have an extra stalk in-house. I just hate taking that steering column apart. Maybe this swap will be easy for a change (yeah, .... right - lol)

Thanks - Jim

That dome is only for the AC, the lights "daylight" sensor is mounted on the screen by the rain sensor.

That little plastic dome is for the Air Conditioner.

Well that's interesting. I need to go back into my diagrams and schematics. So what is it that the dome measures? Light intensity? Radiant heat? It's not the cockpit air temperature, because that sensor is in front of my knee.

Haha - My auto windshield wipers work as well as everyone else's, so of course they've never been used (and I Rain-X my windshield regularly). But I'll give the mirror a good look-see.

Thanks! - Jim
