Default Battery fluid level and acid strength

To what level do I keep the fluid in my battery cells. There are two plastic extensions going into the cell from the opening. The longer one ends with a little shelf. The shorter one has no lip and is just a curved piece of plastic. Do I fill with distilled water till I touch the lower shelf? the higher up piece? After I fill to correct level I will check for acid concentration. Does anyone know the specification? 2005 XK8. Thanks

Add distilled water and just cover the plates.
