Default "Battery Not Charging"

Hi has anyone got any experience with this message appearing??

I often get it coming and going within 10-15mins of starting then it seems to go away.

I have had no battery charging issues, and the belt looks good with no slipping sounds.

Is my alternator dying a very slow death or is this some electrical gremlin??

Cheers

It could be a ground, but on my '97, the Alternator died. If you have the three gages, you'd see the voltage was low. Years of oil dripping from the valve cover onto the alternator didn't help it.

I went to the junkyard and pulled the alternator off of an '01 XJ8 for $40 (and paid $5 for the 2 year warranty).

I've seen this issue before. It's been anywhere between the battery, the alternator or the positive cable at the back of the alternator.

Do you have a multimeter to check the voltage at the battery? You should be above 14.2v with engine running, headlights on and wipers going on slow speed. I've seen the alternators go out, and the positive cable on the back of the alternator cause this as well. Start with the battery check first, and go from there.
