Default Battery tender question

I have a Deltran Battery Tender Plus that works very well. My question is it better to connect to the battery in the trunk or to the connections in the engine compartment?

I prefer to use a trunk connection. The closer you are to the battery, the less voltage drop. I bought an extended Deltran wiring harness as the included 18" (?) harness wasn't long enough to pass thru the battery section cover where I wanted it to go.

As advised on this forum, I connect the battery harness to the charger and just gently close the trunk over the cable . Is is not mashed and can still be moved back and forth to confirm that there is no "pinching " going on.

Even with a new battery, I keep the tender connected every night. Been getting 9+ years out of batteries with this type of maintenance.

Use the boot. I have a Ctek on mine all winter and zray said, you can close the trunk gently. Mine does not even have a mark on the rubber seal after 4 years.

Been using a Battery Tender Jr for three years and I close the trunk all the way. No issues, no wear marks, no sign of deforming the gasket.

I've been using a Battery Tender on my '98 XK8 since I bought it new in Oct '97... 47K miles ago. I have it connected in the rear and ran the cable down to the battery through the same gasket as the boot release wiring as pictured. When plugged in, the cable exits from the upper corner of the lid and isn't pinched. I use it whenever I won't be driving the car for a week or more. I'm on my 3d battery in 20 years.
