Default New Battery or Buy a Battery Tender?

Hey guys, Quick run down on a little issue I'm having with my 2009 XF-SC

At midnight when parking the car, I make sure to "double lock" the car so the car is shut down completely and keep the key 40+ feet away.

The next morning (9am) I get in and the car tries to start and sounds like it almost cant but eventually does after 4 seconds. I make sure the auto lights and heat/ac is off before I park it at night, to see if it struggles the same, and it does.

So I looked in the trunk and on the battery the date says 8/11. After normal driving to work, when I go to lunch no hesitation, instant start. When I didn't take lunch one day, it barely started like it does leaving it overnight.

Not wanting to go to the dealer, was wondering if any kind of test, or procedures to check it?
Think I'm better off buying a new battery or buy a tender?
If I should buy a new battery, do with Jag oem or Interstate that I can get from any auto store?

Thanks in advance for all your guys help.

Time for a new battery, all things equal, assuming you do not have a drain some where.
Stop in at local auto store and have them do the battery test, then decide.
Battery tenders have come down in price, not a bad idea to have one if the the car may set for a week or two while out on a trip.

The auto parts store can test it and see if it is the battery or the charging system, usually for free. If both are ok, you might have a circuit staying on that shouldn't.

A three year old battery should not be dying, especially if it lives in the trunk. It might be a premature failure, or you might have some parasitic load (Does the interior / map light shut off correctly?) Either way, a battery tender is for extended no run periods and it will not solve your problem.

Just be aware that many batteries have bench tested fine and still required replacement.
I also would check that the car is going to sleep properly.

Here is an easy way to check.

With the car in the garage pop the trunk and leave it open. Make sure the key is far enough away so the car WILL go to sleep. Check in a hour to see if the trunk light is still off. It will only be off if the car is in sleep mode.

If the trunk light stays on the car thinks something is going on and will not enter sleep mode.

Thanks guys for the info and help,

I'm going to try tbird's test first, and see what happens.

Any brand recommendations on a replacement battery for this car?

I would recommend to get the most expensive 5 year warranty one. I went today and replaced mine! Its not expensive, $145.00 for a 5 year warranty.

So I did the tbird trunk test, and the light did go off after about 45 minutes. I'm going to get the battery checked and probably going to replace it anyways, Thanks for all your guys' help.

Autozone or Advance Auto Parts group H8 AGM are both excellent and maintenance free. I think AAP has a better price if you find a $50 off coupon online.

An Autozone battery in a Jag-u-wah? Heresy, I say! :-)

Some folks always want to spend more money on their "official Jaguar parts", in keeping with the exclusivity of the marque!
