Battery Tender Question for EE's

Battery Tender Question for EE's
and anybody else. Have a single car garage and a two car-wide driveway in Toronto. Brrr. Normally we don't park in the garage unless we are away for two+ weeks. Even in winter we just brush the snow off and go. Easier than moving a car and opening/closing garage door, etc. etc.
The cars (BMW and Jag) are parked with their noses up near the garage door. But both cars have batteries in the rear where a quick disconnect would be mounted to hang out the trunk.
Thinking of getting a Battery Tender Plus or two, and extending the stock charger extension cord by splicing in a suitable size wire (18ga?) to reach about twenty feet to the back of a car.
1) any problems with this scheme?
2) is it okay to disconnect at the car and not turn off the mains/shut-off the battery tender inside the closed garage door?

You have two choices, they do sell a 25 ft extension or you can splice in the 20 feet. Just make sure to up the gauge of the wire to compensate for a little voltage drop.

Thanks Zach. That length didn't come up when I was on Amazon. Might as will get OEM instead of futzing with a splice.
Now, what about Question 2? Do you think I can simply disconnect at the trunk and leave everything else on? Anybody do this?

You can do it, its not unsafe if you're reasonably cautious about things (not leaving them near metal, water, etc.), but it will drain electricity the whole time its plugged in.

I can see it using up a bit of electricity, but it's not charging as the circuit isn't complete. Probably will use as much as my toothbrush, instant on TV, and all the other first world crap that we all have plugged in, dontcha think?

This way I just unplug right at the cars, stow extension cable off to the side of the cars and drive away. See?

MY XJL always gave low battery warnings so I always keep it plugged in at home even thought it's a daily driver and kept the maintainer always powered. Unless it says anything different in the owners manual of the maintainer I would have no problem.

I do it all the time. I never unplug the battery maintainers and I use 20 of them of different brands.

We are humans. It is our nature and responsibility to judge or else the world will turn to turmoil. How will aston martin act on good ideas if we don't ridicule them when they have bad ones?

Sounds like this development has you shaken- but certainly not stirred.

I am fortunate, I have a very good relationship with the owner of the Aston Martin/ Bentley/Jaguar/Land Rover Dealership.
Whenever something special comes down from Head office, usually in the form of a "confidential memo" only for the Dealer principle and Sales Manager advising of a "limited edition" or for collectors, he gives me a heads up and first opportunity to acquire before it is made available to the public. The Bond edition is limited to 100 coupes, has all the "bits and pieces" according to the NA rep from Aston. I am not crazy about the graphics but in short you are getting a DBS for the price of a BD9
In short I buy my cars to keep and I do keep my cars forever, I have never sold my fun cars.
My McLaren is 1 of 50 anniversary editions, The Project 7 (1 of 250), and the James Bond edition ( 1 of 100). In my opinion it makes them just a little more special and a little more rare.
I have already started to nag the dealer about the possibility of the Vulcan being made as a road car, to be first on the list.

What I do to most of my cars is install a charge port. I normally install in an out of the way location.
they are very inexpensive.
