Default Bizarre Fueling and Startup Situation 2003 XK8 Convertible

Hello!

I have two strange situations going on. My XK8 takes an extended amount of time to start up. Also, my gas gage is stuck on 3/4 of a tank and I cannot fill it up. The station pump stops letting fuel into the vehicle.

I had a problem similiar to this with my 1998 XJ8. The problem was solved by having my mechanic press some kind of "crash reset button". Before I send him down this path, has anyone else had this kind of issue?

BTW...as soon I learn how to upload pics, I'll post shots of my baby with her new rims and upgrades to the Alpine Premium sound system.

Thanks!

Regarding the fuel gauge issue, I can't offer any input. For the starting issue, you may have a faulty check valve, which is part of the fuel pump assy. Check out my posts regarding bad fuel pumps https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...s-78107/page2/

others have had this issue too. From the 2003 MY onward the fuel system was redesigned as a return-less system and the check valve maintains fuel at the fuel rail. When it is at fault, fuel drains back to the tank when the car is shut off requiring longer than normal cranking times while fuel is delivered to the rail and then the engine starts.

And while you are in the fuel tank servicing the fuel pump, replace your fuel level sender also.

It is far more likely to be the cause of the 3/4 full problem than the gauge itself.

If your crash reset button needed to be reset, your car would not run for lack of fuel...period. It has nothing to do with these issues.

Default thanks for the info

My mechanic already replaced the fuel pump; so he should look at this check valve as a separate issue? And I will also have him check the fuel level sender.

Read the thread referenced in post #2 above.

The check valve is integrated into the pump and apparently a lot of check valves in the replacement pumps have been faiing repeatedly. Hopefully yours will not be one of them.
