Bluetooth issue
My 2006 came with Bluetooth for the phone. Nice to have hands free operation. It has been dodgy forever. Now I think it is messed up. I just had some work on it that entailed getting into the header and I suspect the microphone was messed up somehow. I can hear the person I call, but they can barely hear me.
There have been intermittent problems since I owned the car. I could take it back to the shop and make an issue out of this.
Does anybody know of a modern Bluetooth system that I could have installed in the car? I really like the hands free operation. I want it to work and I want the install to look like it belongs in the car.
Thank you,
Jack

Before going too far you might pull the console panel down and check the mic wiring and connections. That's easy to do and at least worth a look.
You can also likely replace just the mic if that's the only problem with the current system.
Barring that, Parrot is a popular hands free brand. There are many models to choose from depending on the features you want and while it does take some work, they can be integrated into the car just like the OEM system, so that it mutes the radio when a call comes, etc.

I agree with Charlie. Both of our Jaguars have factory Bluetooth systems that have worked quite well. But less than six months into ownership of our S-Type, the microphone failed. We could hear the other party but they could not hear us. A new microphone solved the problem. They're cheaply made and I don't know how repairable they are, but that's where I would start if I were you....

I use one of these...
Cassette Adapter Bluetooth - Bluetooth Music Receiver for Cassette Decks - ION Audio - Dedicated to Delivering Sound Experiences
A cheap, discrete upgrade that allows hands-free phone and also music from a bluetooth-enabled iPod. No cables and it keeps everything original. Battery life on a full charge is about 7-8 hours.
