Default Brake Booster Line Leak?

I finally figured out what this tube coming out the right side of my Throttle Body Elbow is. The Brake Booster Line. (It's the black plastic tube in the center of the pics).

I can easily slide it in and out of the elbow, as if it's just held in by some kind of lip, but certainly not a nice tight O-Ring. I've also been chasing down some slight vacuum leak (P0171 of course).

I'm not sure if this arrangement is unique to the XKR or not, but if any of you have the intake duct off for some reason, would you gently tug and push on that tube and let me know if it's tight or slightly loose.

THANKS!!!

It is a replaceable plastic ring that fits into a brass
bushing. Recently discussed in the X308 section I
think. No need to replace the brass bit as the OP
in that thread was attempting to do.

If it is LOOSE at the entry point into the TB then it prob needs fixed. This is what I used from Jagbits to fox this on my XK8. Jaguar BRAKE BOOSTER VACUUM HOSE CONNECTOR KIT - C2S15816
If says it is for the Xtype but works on the xk8. I repalced mine. You do not have to get brass fitting out. I pulled mine out, replaced the BRITTLE oring (not rubber anymore) and used the black catch thing that holds the line in place firmly. The tube itself does not go that far into the elbow. half an inch or so.
I would double check on the part from jag bits, all them to verify but i think it is the same for xk to the xtype.

I was able to get one of these from my local Jag dealership, the parts guy said he had never seen the part before.

Anyway I managed to lose the O ring into the intake manifold and ended up sealing with some hi temp rtv.

pull the tube out, be gentle with it so ya don't break it. Take out the old O-ring inside the brass fitting, still could be rubber (mine was brittle). As prev said there is not reason to replace the brass fitting unless you visibly see it cracked or the like which is not likely.
Since your TB is on the car still (mine was not when I did my repair) be careful not to push that o-ring into the TB. The O-ring should sit in a groove inside the brass fitting, it wont fall into the TB. With the kit, there will be the replacement black catch thing that you will replace the old one that is on the tube that will break when you take it off the TB. Mine did. If you have not, take note how much of the tube went into the TB. When you put it back together you want to put it back in that far. If I recall you snap the black catch into the brass fitting and gently push in the tube. You prob can see how far it went in based on the marks on the tube?? With that new black round catch it will be pretty hard to pull the tube back out as it snugs it in pretty good.

Thanks guys. I've thrown a little black RTV around the tube and slid it into place. That should hold for a while. I'll see what's available. This is some really good intel - appreciate it.

Why not buy the kit and fix it? The kit is cheap, the fix is 15 minutes tops.

I need to call JagBits and confirm. I do have one question though:
You can see where the O-Ring in the brass collar would seal against the black fitting, but what seals that fixture around the tube that goes into it? I believe that's the relationship that is loose on mine. The black fitting seems to be tight to the brass collar.

If I recall the black catch thing you insert into the brass fitting does not go past the o-ring. Seems to me the o-ring seals the brass fitting side and around the tube, the catch is just there to hold the plastic tube in snug.

So the O-ring in the picture is actually on the engine side of the brass collar? Boy, does "that" not look right.

I'm sure I'll figure it out when I yank the tube clear of it all, .... AFTER replacement parts are in hand of course. ;-)

as I recall the o-ring is more towards the inside of the TB side of the brass fitting. I am fairly certain it is not dead center inside the brass fitting.
So yours is still snug in the fitting or moving around?

see this pic. the o-ring seals the outside of the tube, the black chinese finger just holds the tube in place,
the o-ring goes in as far as it can and is held by the lip at the end of the bushing

a curved pic tool or go see your dentist and ask for any broken tool he might have, those work great.

I used to special tool to get mine out other then I was lucky to have my TB off the car so it was easy to work with. Sorry just going to have to play with it. Tweezers? Small electrical tools that you would for wiring things in small area's.
