Default brakes don't fit

Hi all;
The car is a 98 convertible. Last year, I replaced front calipers, pads, rotors, and hoses. The loaded caliper would not fit on rotor. I thought maybe I picked up the wrong pads. I got another set from other brand. Same thing. So, I checked the spec'd dimensions. pads-lining and plate, and rotor thickness all on spec. All for standard xk8. Caliper was fully compressed. Casting #s same. The old pads weren't bad, so I reused them. Now, this year they have to be changed. I wonder if someone else has had this issue. What am I missing?
Thanx, Don

Hello;
Thank you rothwell. I measured the two sets of pads i have. One was 19.3, the other a little more. Only on the rockauto side could i find info on thickness. The one set i have is on rockauto and the description is given as 16.3
WTF? I'm sure the average parts store clerk won't be able to sort that one out.

Did you push the piston back into the caliper?

all the way. I've seen on the forum that there is a pad thickness of 16.3mm or 19.3mm. the two sets of pads i have are supposed to be the 16.3 but measure at the thicker. This is the first time in the 12 years i've had the car that this has come up. There is only one thickness rotor supercharged or not. I ordered some brembo made pads with the correct jag serial # and a print description with the right thickness. fingers crossed.

Or use a belt sander on the new pads you have.

I might do that with the one set, Mike. Luckily, I kept the receipt for the other. The Brembos I ordered came in, and they are the correct thickness.
