Brakes, maybe tire issue
01 xke, four times now while pressing the brakes at very low speeds (<10mph) the front tires have locked up and the tires slid some. This really freaked me out, as if that would to happen when I am going 25+ that could have a REAL bad ending.
But it does not happen at any speed over 10, so now I am wonderinf why this is happening at such a low speed.
The tires have pretty good tread and the car does seem to grip good in turns and I am pressing lightly on the brakes, not that, that should matter.
So anybody got an idea of what is wrong?

If the tires locked up and you can feel the car slide then that just simply sounds like the tires braking grip. Doesn't sound like a brake issue to me, sounds to me like either a cold or icy surface, cold or worn out tires, or a combination of both. Thing to keep in mind is tire grip is affected starting in temps under 50*F, and some tires' grip radically changes through their life cycle, even before the tread begins to get bald.

If this happened to me, I would first want to know that each piston in the the calipers was not stuck or sticking. In order to trouble shoot I would pull each caliper and insure the pistons could be pushed in by hand (or hand tool). Then push on brake pedal to insure they are free to move back into place clamping on either the rotor or something on the exact same thickness.
The objective is the be certain the caliper pistons are free to move the entire length of their service travel within the caliper piston bores. Be careful when pushing caliper pistons inwards, as this will force paint caustic brake fluid to fill the master cylinder reservior as possibly spill.
