Default Brighter instrument lights?

The instruments in my 2004 XKR are impossible to see in the daylight. I'm looking into dark tunnels Has anyone changed their bulbs to a brighter one, maybe LED?

I was having the same problem reading the gauges in my '03 in daylight that I was about to pull the dash and replace all my dash lights with lamps that were far brighter. Short of doing all that work - I went and had cataract surgery . Dash lights now look like high beams !

Have you checked one (or more) bulbs haven't blown? There's 8 in the main Instrument Pack.

Funny--the complaint I had when first getting the car was that the instrument lights were needlessly on all the time. The gauges seem perfectly readable to me in daylight and I was thinking that having the bulbs on all the time would wear them out sooner.

When I pulled the main instrument pack to replace one of the four primary bulbs that was burned when I bought my XKR, I replaced the lot with fresh bulbs. Much better brightness, and not just because of the full compliment now functioning.

I'd go with a full set of new standard 194 incandescents, myself. Bet it'll help.

As long as you are switching them out, why not go with LEDs?

Some have found the LEDs are not as bright as old fashioned incandescents, as counter intuitive as that seems. Reverend Sam, I believe it was, reported such experience in one of his videos.

How do I get the bulbs out? Do I have to pull out the dash?

Is there a video showing how to remove the gauge module? I'm new to the world of Jaguar.

The workshop manual is worth getting if you don't have it yet, it is in the FAQ section for the X100 forum (sticky at the top of this page; a wealth of information). For ease, the workshop manual is downloadable from http://www.mediafire.com/view/0iiiuu...ed_in_2003.pdf

See Rev Sam's Utube vid on the subject.
