Angry Broken power seat box

OK, I've searched the forum and can't find anything about this or I'm not inputting the right words.

The driver's seat electrical control box, found under the seat, is broken and lying on the floor. It appears the securing tabs have broken off.

A friend of mine's 2006 XK8 suffered the same fate. He secured it back under the seat with wire.

WTF? Any other fix suggestions?

The lids are available for around $5 or so from the dealer. See attached TSB.

Ripping the two fixing studs out of the Seat Module lid is a regular issue:

The weight of the driver or passenger inevitably presses down on the bracket and as this is a rigid fixing, something has to give. With the Seat module, it's the lid that breaks.

After breaking two in fairly quick succession, I fitted the replacement with rubber domestic tap washers on the studs between the Module lid and the bracket to give it some flexibility.

Coming up to a year now without any further breaks.

Graham;

Great idea. I suppose you had to take the seat out to accomplish this? If so, how to?

Thanks.

No need to remove the seat, the two nuts which secure the bracket are accessible on the underside of the seat. It's a five minute job, you just need to be able to stand on your head in the footwell!

I'd agree with renaultvation about not needing to remove the seat on the 4.0 litre but the last of the 4.2 litre cars have deeper seats and I couldn't get to the harness plugs on mine with the seat in place.

Here's the JTIS procedure for Front Seat removal:

JTIS - XK8 Front Seat.pdf

Because I have the Coupe, I didn't bother to lift the seat out - just tilted it back as shown on the RH of this photo:

5 minutes standing on my head should be just enough time before I pass out!!!

You've got a Convertible - it should be a piece of cake. The same technique in a Coupe would put me in traction for a week!
