Gents, I am working on a friend's XK8 and, so far, this has been elusive. I have tried to research the forum on this, but I either haven't asked the right way or it hasn't come up. The convertible roof console simply won't stay up after a short drive. It didn't seem that difficult, but has evaded solution. I've tried tweaking the spring clips to get them to hold better, but that hasn't worked. Is there a "magic" method or am I not holding my tongue correctly?

Any ideas? Can anyone supply close-up pictures of what the correct shape of the clips look like, in situ, in case I have gotten this thing too late in the game?

most likely cause is the plastic bracket the clips go into is broke - not a very expensive item
