Default Burping the cat

Hello all

Anyone know of any special procedure to get all the air from the cooling system after a drain and re-fill?
I had to change the front water distribution pipe/manifold (or whatever it is called) - the level in the expansion tank has falling slowly, temp shows normal, but just worried that there are air pockets in the system somewhere

thanks!

Paul

Without a pressure tester to force the air out you will just need to go for a bit of a blast around the block, it wont take long before the air has passed through the system

In most vehicles after the engine gets hot enough for the thermostate to open, you give the engine a few good revs, and that should take care of it.

remove the thermostat cap (i think its a 10mm allen head) located directly on top of the thermostat housing. since yours is a 97 it may have a chrome cap on top of it. it just pops up. then remove the coolant reservoir cap. next start filling up the engine at the thermostat cap area. once its completely full and has stopped burping air, install the cap and chrome piece. then start filling at the coolant reservoir until its full. install the cap. last remove the back of the pass fenderwell. thats where the overflow tank is and fill it up half way with just water. run vehicle till its hot then shut it off and wait till its cold and recheck at the coolant reservoir. that is the best way i know. hoped this helped.

Do not forget to turn your heater to high and run it for as long as you can stand it.If it is cool when you first turn it on,you will feel it get hot once it is full with water. Then recheck coolant level again.

Some cars have bleed screws at the thermostat to allow for easy bleeding of air. So this is not the case for XK8/XKR?
