Can the back windows be rolled up with the top down?
Also, I have no problem with you improving on my idea. I don't think anyone is here to patent ideas and make money. Reko posted the links to the convertible pump power connectors over in the voltage reduction thread. I've been searching for those connectors for days. I have no idea how Reko found them, but I figured since I was going to order a couple, I might as well order 20 to reduce the per-piece cost of shipping. I hope Reko doesn't mind that I'm going to assemble the whole unit and sell it for essentially my cost. He didn't indicate that he was going to try to make money by packaging all of the parts together, so I felt it was OK to do it myself.
On the other hand, Walt and Gus spent some time researching the hydraulic solution. I found the parts online for less than $100, but since they are actually marketing the solution I thought that it would be kinda rude of me to buy the parts and try to undercut their price.
I wish they had just designed this in consideration to the users who might want the rear windows up while driving. They could have very easily added the extra sequences to let you use the rear windows with the top down.
Ah... I think I see what you're doing. However, won't pushing the button to raise the top also raise the windows at the very start of the cycle? I don't see how you can use the convertible up button to raise the windows but also use the same button to initiate an idiot-proof retraction of the windows when you raise the top.

Are you saying hat you will have to quickly hit the button to lower the windows then press again to raise the top? If so it isn't idiot proof and still could run into problems...just wondering
If you go back and look at pages 5 and 6 of the .pdf I posted in post #47 of this thread you will see the timing charts of the convertible open and close sequence. By using a some of these signals as indicators of where you are in a convertible top cycle, you can vary the behavior of the switch...that is the other key to how this works.

Just tried it out on the road. One point to mention: with the back windows up the rub against the cover for the top when it is fitted. Not bad but it does lift the outer edge of it. Doesn't look odd though and the casual observer probably wouldn't notice anything unusual. Less wind buffeting as well
It was more than worth the small amount I paid for it from RevSam.

The windows don't rub my tonneau cover. The tonneau cover is supposed to be tucked in. If you leave the little flaps rubbing on the fender it will scratch the paint. With the flaps on the tonneau cover tucked in there is no rubbing.
That doesn't look too bad. A shoe repair guy could probably adjust the profile slightly on the cover if you want to fix it...or DIY if you are handy with a sewing awl.

I didn't even notice that on mine. My tonneau is touching the window, and I guess the window pushes it back by maybe 1/4 inch, but it doesn't bother me. Like I said, I didn't even notice it until you pointed it out.
-Will use the exisitng roof switch on the console. A quick press will make the rear windows go up or down. A longer press will operate the roof.
-Has an 'idiotproof' autodown failsafe when the top is raised
-Avoids cutting a hole in your console storage box.
-No wire cutting, only wire taps, just like Sam's solution.
-The mod will be removable if that is ever desired.
The disadvantages relative to Sam's solution will be:
-It costs more: about $30 vs. $10.
-The installation is just a little more involved. In addition to the console wires, you will need to intercept a couple of wires in the trunk and one at the roof switch.
I do not want to post it until it is fully tested....probably a week or two from now.
And again, I would not be here doing this if Sam's idea did not spur me on...so Kudo's to Sam.
I protoyped the installation last night. It works!!!
Those of you who already implemented the separate switch can choose to implement just the fail-safe autodown portion if you wish.
Detailed instructions to follow soon.
