Default Car Judder at Tick Over

Whilst driving my car this morning I stopped at the lights and the car was juddering quite badly in both drive and neutral. In fact I think in neutral it was worse.

Just wondering if anyone's experienced this. I am hoping this is just a one off and will take the car for a drive later.

Any ideas?

Regards

Rocky

Rocky15,

First thought is that something's not right in the engine's ignition cycle for it to run rough at idle. Dirty air filter, bad MAF, bad spark plug, misfire etc. Throttle body maybe just needs a clean/adjustment. As it could be a number of things, pull DTC codes on a OBD to check.

Second thought - is this juddering happening as you're slowing/moving? It could be an early symptom of bad/low transmission fluid and maybe you're overdue a ATF fluid change.

Other remote possibility is that, due to the age of our cars, the engine mounts are failing. During a hard brake, do you hear a clung from the front? Check out the thread below (dated all the way back in 2009).

A fuel pressure problem or a cylinder misfire .........

I'd get a code reader on it to see if there's any indicative codes that would help diagnosis.

Also, watch the fuel trims as it happens in case it's an air leak.

Thanks

Got a load of misfire errors and looks like supercharger seals, although they were supposed to have been replaced 5000 miles ago.

A mechanic yesterday sprayed some brake cleaner on them and the revs changed, also sounds like there's air being drawn in but still not 100%.
