Default Tick, Tick ,Tick, FIX!

I know there have been a ton of information written over the years on this subject but as I tried to follow those threads addressing the tick, tick, tick coming from their engine it always seemed to stop short of the actual fix. My ticking started soon after I bought the car in 07 with 72k on it. It was a quiet clunky tick most notable when in drive at idle. I was told on the forum under no uncertain terms to stop driving it and have the cam chain tensioners replaced, but sense the noise soon went away after the engine warmed up I just put it off. Then it started ticking when warm and more like a flat lifter, but coming from the front center of the engine so I took it to the dealer.
Solution, $3,300 for a full cam chain and tensioner replacement.
So there you go, the problem and the solution!

At least you got it fixed before it gave out on you and cost much more.

Jon,

This is a good thread regarding the issue. Especially see post #13...

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...nsioner-47154/

It would appear that you do not have any concerns. The issue was corrected by the time your car was built. Mine too.

If you have an early car with plastic tensioners, it is of major concern. If it breaks the valves in our "interferance" motors start banging into pistons. The motor is toast.

Most people who are aware of the issue have their motors updated to the new spec so this huge problem will not occur.

No worries for you.

This is one of the benefits of owning one of the last cars in the series.

Jack
