Default car out for the season and in two weeks i have had !!!

Hi all:

Had the car on the road for the season two weeks. In that time I have had a gearbox fault, broken passenger seat, abs traction fault !!!!!. Ahh jags ya gotta love them (99xk8 convert ) But all is well. Gearbox fault was me ( ultra guage caused that one ) Seat was a blown fuse. That could of been me too by backing up the seat to far and not releasing button. So far two are my fault !!! The traction abs was fixed easily as the battey seemed fully charged so just disconnected the abs unit connector and sprayed contact cleaner on it. Did the trick. I think cleaning as many of these connectors would be a good preventive maint thing. Car is running good though. Design is holding up well she looks great. Happy driving everyone and beware the ultra guage.

I think these cars don't like to sit for very long. It seems that the more I drive mine, the fewer faults I have. Perhaps if you give yours a number of good runs as the summer takes hold, things will quiet down and the car will enjoy being on the road again.

Best of luck.

No doubt you are right. Sitting cannot be good but in my world driving year round is not an option. I am surrounded by the ocean and man they pile the salt on the roads in the winter. I could watch the cars in the 70's just rust in front of my eyes. Just got back from a quick drive and took her on the highway. These are geared for speed that is for sure. I guess perhaps the faults are something we all have to live with. But I have all the info and a good code reader and of course the best resource of all ( all on this forum )

I'm glad to see your back up and running. Years ago, around the seventies, I could have sworn that you could hear the salt eating away at the cars sitting in the garage in the winter. They seem to make them a little better, I'll get about ten years on the SUV's we drive in the winter before they start rusting through. back then it would be four to seven.

That's why we like in the south, there may only be four or five days a year when we get that white stuff. I had the top down in Dec and Jan. Sorry to rub it in! Ha jim
