Default car won't start P1260, P1517 2001 XKR

The car set for about a week and I went to start it Tuesday and it would not start. It cranked fine.

I figured low battery, so I put it on a charger. Today still won't start.

I hooked up a scan tool and it shows:

P1260 - Theft Detected, Vehicle Immobilized
P1517 - Cranking Neutral/Drive Malfunction

When I crank it shows RPM on the scan tool so I am pretty certain the Crank Position sensor is working. I've tried both keys, no difference.

Any ideas what this is or how to fix?

If the car is cranking, I suspect that the P1260 (security system) may be historic. Try clearing the codes.

However, P1517 inhibits fuel injection, hence the no start:

I'd check first whether you have fuel pressure at the schrader valve - just in case there's a fuel pump issue.

Otherwise check the 'possible causes' listed above.

Thanks. I don't think you can get to the Schrader valve on an XKR without taking off the Intercoolers.

you can get to it on my 2002 XKR (4.0 L). But you have to pull out the part load breather tube to get straight shot at it. The pipe stub is so delicate I hate to even look at it

Z

PS The dang intercooler are totally in the way of getting to the knock sensors. That’s a real bit*h.

You are correct. Thank you. I should be able to get to it and check it.

Well I think it is electrical/battery/PCM problem.

After taking the battery out of the car and charging, put it back in, it started right up but got a whole new set of codes but the gear lever would not leave park, restricted performance, no RPM showing on the dash.

Turned it off, got out the torx and forced it into neutral through the little torx covered hole, cleared the codes and started it again to pull into the garage and out of the rain. After pull it goes in and out of gear fine, has yet a 3rd set of codes.

Put it back on the charger, will leave it on there for a few more days and see how it goes.

Odd.
Removing the battery to charge it will effectively have done a hard reset. Given it started, at least one of the fuel pumps is OK.

Curious:- what are the new codes?
