Default CATS problem and others

Hi guys
This is a pic of my fav car,
It has 22" BBS wheels with Brembo rotors and full spec Jag brakes ?
the CATS is a bit of a pain as I am getting chipped teeth with the hard ride

Thumbs up

She's looking good Mustang II. What colour is it? Hard to tell from the pic. The wheels are very nice but as I have the same system I'll bet that you're getting a harsher than normal ride due to the skinny wheels. I've got 18's and at 30lbs it's just acceptable.

Let's get some pics in your garage.

I"ve got the same (18's, tho a 'vert). and at 26/28lbs, it is just acceptable as well - but I seem to be getting use to it, and the seats make up a lot of comfort! DaleD

I guess it depends where you are coming from in terms of how you discern the ride quality. I was coming from a 1995 Corvette, and my 2005 XKR with 20" wheels and super low profile Pirelli's feels absolutely like silk compared to the Vette. I guess if you are coming from a Lincoln Towncar or some other large sedan, then comparatively the Jaguar could feel "harsh" with big wheels and low-profile tires. Still to me it feels nothing like a "typical" sports car but much more like a sporty sedan.

Agreed! (and my last car was a Chrysler!) What I do love however (past the sheer beauty of the machine) is the handling - point it somewhere, press a pedal and you are there! I had to get used to being careful when changing lanes without running over the car ahead of me ... DaleD

I still will not make the type of sometimes "last second" maneuvers (like quick changes to another lane when the lane I am in is stalled) that I used to routinely do with the Corvette. Even though I supposedly have 100 more horsepower than the Corvette, my XKR feels absolutely ponderous and much less responsive compared to the Vette due to the extra mass. Consequently, I drive much more cautiously which is a good thing I guess.

Where is your grill? It would be a shame to have a rock hit your AC coils or radiator!

Are you sure those are 22"? I thought they were 20" If they are 22", then that explains the harsh ride.

I agree, 22" Wheels leave little sidewall and will definitely make for a harsher ride even with the CATS not engaged.

Our XKR (2000) has 18" wheels and the ride is never harsh.

Cheers,

Mark

hi guys the grill is there it is quite fine, one of these days I will get a nice chrome job,
the colour is roman bronze, it dosent photo very well but it looks great,
the cats was working when I got the car and the ride was good especially at high speed
but since the fault light came on it is very hard and can become quite uncomfortable especially around town and poor quality roads, and to add injury to insult I keep getting the restricted performance/engine light/abs/ traction control/ lights coming on, one day it runs great the next its one fail after the other,
Gus has given me some pointers and when I get some time I will work through them,
JIm
