Default CD player skipping...What do I do?

I have a '98 XK8 and for what ever reason the CD player seems to be skipping at lot. After a while of skipping it just stops playing completely...is this something that could be solved with one of the CD lens cleaners or do I need to have the CD player replaced?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

It couldn't hurt. I'd blow some compressed air in there first, try it and then go to the lens cleaner. You can get a replacement CD player at many salvage yards or ebay. For used (confirmed working order) contact jagtechohio (member on here). He's got lots of parts...could possibly help you.

I think H20 Boy meant with a can of computer compressed air cleaner, not an air hose. I have cleaned a couple of CD/DVD players that were operating strangely and that took care of the issue. It is also a manufacturer recommended fix for my entertainment center Samsung DVD player.

I think most of the jag cd changes have a tendency to skip (my '01 does in any case). Your 08 has a small buffer. You can pick up a new changer for not that huge of a dollar amount. Frankly, I am probably ditch the alpine head unit and put in a Kenwood with USB, aux, and parrot bluetooth with a pro install so it blends in with the factory look. It's really not that expensive and is superior to the OEM radio, which I find a bit fussy and the lack of ipod connectivity is big negative.

If you have navigation... replacement is a total nightmare (and costly) unless you don't care much if the navigation works. It won't operate (besides the clock) w/o the factory deck in line with the rest of the components (amp/nav module).
