Changing dash instrument lightbulbs?
I paid a small fortune to change the tiny lightbulbs behind the dashboard instruments (tach, odometer, and gas/temp) a couple of years ago, because I couldn't figure out how to get the instruments out. Has anyone done this, and is it easier than I thought, or just tricky enough to make me pay $150/hr for Jag to do it - grrrrrrr.
I used to have an XK8 with some blown bulbs, the dealer told me it would be expensive as its a lot of effort to get the dash out. To be fair Iv'e seen several negative comments on the net about the technical ability of that particular dealer though (Millenium Jag in Plano TX).
I guess it would be worth looking into the possibility of replacing all the bulbs with LED equivalents while you're in there, so they wont eventually burn out again.
Both my current car (2000 XKR) and my old XK8 both have/had anoying rattles/squeaks coming from behind the dash while driving so assuming its a common problem, that might also be motivation to get the dash out.
