How have you determined that the battery is charging fine?
For the AJ26 it appears that the 3 pin connector on the generator has a wire specifically for the charge indicator.
A multi-plug (3 pin) is connected to the rear of the generator

Pin #1 not connected
Pin #2 ignition supply to the regulator
Pin #3 output to the charge warning lamp
This runs directly to the instrument cluster so maybe you have a wiring problem there? Or the connector is not well seated?Pin #2 ignition supply to the regulator

+1 to ccfulton. It’s a zero dollar check.
Here’s a pic showing the connector at the back of the alternator, after I removed the airbox for access, and removed the main positive cable.
Difficult to unplug and reseat this connector though. Good luck.
