Hello! I have a 2003 XK8. Just had it serviced and its running great. This a.m. though noticed the check engine light on. Its amber so I drove for the day and the car ran fine. Checked under the hood for anything obvious. All looked o.k. Checked the gas cap, took it off and put it back on. O.k. The only symptom is my convertible top. When I push the button to take the top down, the rear windows go down, per usual, but the top would not deploy. Pushed the button that would raise the top,and the rear windows went back up. So at that point I left it alone. Is there a way to tell what it is or should I bring it in? Thanks!

 

You can read the fault codes with an inexpensive OBDII reader available at any auto parts store. Most chain stores will also read them for you for free. If you get the code numbers (not descriptions) and post them here you will get valuable advice. You can also get a bluetooth OBDII reader or for Android or a WiFi OBDII reader for apple phones for around $15 bucks on ebay.

My initial guess is that your amber fault light and your top problem may be unrelated. Check the fluid level of your top pump in the right rear fender behind the carpeted wall. It must be between the 2 embossed lines on the tank for the top to operate properly.
