Default Check engine light on after changing gauge cluster bulb??

Hi,

Today I removed the instrument cluster assembly on my 2005 XK8 to change a burned out bulb. Now the airbag light is on. Maybe this is a coincidence, but the light has never been on before. Or maybe just a Jaguar electrical quirk? Has anyone experienced this? Thanks for any suggestions.

Correction...the post should say that the check engine light is on, not the airbag light.

Wow, sorry to hear about your check engine light.

I'm no mechanic, but I would have someone see if there are any codes causing that check engine light to appear... if it's funky wiring that's causing the lamp behind the gauge cluster to illuminate, then it probably won't show a code... again, I'm not a mechanic... just an engineer...

You could try putting the old bulb back in, see if the condition changes. I think I've read where a harness wiggled free during a bulb change causing the same problem.

I was reading the watts of the rear stop, fog, turn bulbs and noticed that USA bulbs do not have the same watts, they are a bit higher. This draws more from the electrical system, not much but it is different than what was installed at the factory.

Would this make a difference to the car's computer(s)?? I priced the bulbs from the dealer and they are VERY proud of their bulbs at almost double the price of non-Jaguar bulb.

Putting the bulb back.

This is something I would try but not admit it. Damit I just did!
