Check engine light question
The light came on in my wife's 2006 xk8 yesterday. Today I fired it up in the garage an no light, but heard that low oil tapping sound. Was a quart low. The owners manual shows no "low engine oil" warning lamp, so wondering if the check engine light was illuminated due to low oil.
I would think that even sitting in the garage running, the check engine lamp would would light up due to a quart low? (have not added the oil yet).
Thanks for any feedback....

M, no, many of us have been through the oops! 1 quart low! Without a CEL (check engine light).
These babies are way better than my XJ6 was, but . . . It is a jag.
Why doesn't jaguar make refrigerators? They couldn't figure out how to make them leak oil!
(I Couldn't resist ;-)

I experienced a similar situation last week. I was driving from Tampa, FL to Concord, CA and pulled off the freeway to pay attention to my cat. The shoulder was a bit slanted and after a minute, the EIL came on. I pulled back onto the highway and it went off. At the next fuel station, I checked the oil and it was 3/4 quart low. I topped it off. The EIL did not illuminate again the rest of the trip. The car is a 2001 XK8 Convertible. Note: I also have a 1998 XK8 Convertible and the EIL hasn't glowed even when the oil is low.
