Classic Anticipation ??
Here's the 'Deal'.... Paid 17,000 for Daughter's wedding, told son He can have my " 99 xk8 in 8 years when it is a classic, as a tradeoff. It now has 17,000 miles on it and is in pristine condition. I have done or will do all known malfunctions of the car and will keep it in A-1 shape. Mileage to be still under 100,000 miles. [note; all plastic parts have already been replaced] The Question to You is, How would this Deal come out ?? This July 2011, I paid a little under 17,000 for the car. What's going to be the value of this car in 2019 ? [ note; Son doesn't think I owe Him anything! Great Kid!] Lets not include inflation in our opinion. Fun Question

I have no idea what various cars will be worth at what time. It really takes a generation at least to see these things. For example, when I got rid of my almost pristine 1970 Roadrunner back in 1983 I had to practically give it away as the whole musclecar thing was pretty dead at that point. These days, that same car would be worth a small fortune. But unless you are Jay Leno and can afford to have multiple cars garaged or have plenty of money and time to keep your potentially classic car in pristine condition--fuggetaboutit.
I have noticed though that the XK8/XKR are at least being referred to these days as "emerging classics". To me they are already classic.

In another 10 years? Probably not much. It'll probably take 30 years before it becomes worth what you paid for it when you bought it.
