Clicking sound when Turning???
2004 XK8.
When I turn my steering wheel approximately 10 degrees to the right (off center), I hear (and feel), a click, almost like a soft, muted clunk. The slower I'm driving, the more pronounced the sound and feeling. It's most obvious under 5 miles per hour, but, is also noticable at higher speeds. It sounds (and feels) as if it's comming from the sterring column or steering mechanisms, as opposed to a wheel.
Any idea's as to what this problem is? And, if so, do you think it's covered by the last few months of my Select Warranty?
Thanks!

Well, I can tell you, if its mechanical in your steering, it'll be covered. In fact, that reminds me of when my select was about to expire on my car. I had previously spent maybe $3k in there during my ownership, for non-covered items...plus several warranty items (namely the gas cap, and hydraulic top lines). But, when I asked if they could do a visual and thorough inspection, they found several more items needing attention, a dried up engine mount and leaking transmission gasket amongst them.
Remember, bushings won't be covered under most circumstances. If its a wheel bearing or steering end link, that surely will. I've been told, its more of how the service writer 'describes' the problem that has the greatest impact on if the item gets covered under warranty, especially those 'grey' areas.
If you don't have a good reputation with your jag dealer, I highly suggest this...go in for an oil change and an alignment. Pay $250 for the service and bring the guys a box of doughnuts or a pizza when you drop off the car. Ask lots of questions about your car with your service writer, especially if you like him/her. In another month or two, swing by (when its slow, and you know the service writer you met is there) and discuss the end of warranty, and ask for a complimentary and thorough inspection to discover any items still covered. That's what mine did for me, and you may have the same positive experience.

Fortunately, I haven't had to use any of this (yet!), but my Extra Mile Warranty, with "Exclusionary" coverage, specifically says it will cover bushings in the suspension - front and rear.
I plan to have a thorough "inspection" made over the summer to check the condition of all the suspension and steering components - as well as other covered items. I feel it will be $$$ well spent to check all this out on a car that is 9 years old - even with only 30K miles!
This is a good thread, and I'll continue to read and and contribute my experiences. DaleD
