Default code: P1722 help!

About a few days ago my father was driving his 2000 automatic XK8 on the freeway and ended up hitting a pothole really badly. Drove about 50 miles after hitting it and everything seemed fine. After parking it over night we went for a drive. After a few miles everything was fine until we came to a stop. Check engine light turns on. As soon as we start to drive the car starts to rev and seems like it jumps to the next gear and starts to go slow and it continues to do it after we've come to a stop. We park the car and have it towed home. Pulled out the code reader and we get P1722. From what I've seen online its a speed sensor fault or transmission mechanical fault? If so where can I locate the speed sensor or wires to check to see if anything has came loose from hitting the pothole? I really hope its not mechanical fault. From my understanding getting a new or rebuilt transmission can be pricey. I tried searching online but I can never find anything on the speed sensors location to look and see if its loose or has a bad connector. Thanks for your time and help everyone.

The transmission output speed sensor is located inside the transmission pan. You can disconnect and reconnect the electrical connector at the back of the transmission to see if that helps any.
