Default Code Questions..Help? UPDATED ABS NEED HELP:O)

Hi everyone.

I bought my 2001 xkr knowing it has a transmission issue. Every so often it gets locked in gear. I plan on doing a service on it and changing that intermediate plate and hope that solved the issue. The symptoms seem to be on the money for that service.

Ayway there was a check engine light as well as the ABS light every so often (it seems to go on and off). When the ABS light comes on teh TRAC and ASC turned off is shown. But then light will go off an dso will messages

As a background while driving home from picking up the car the alternator went. I have a feeling it had been going for awhile as there was a brand new exide battery in their. I had done a 1 hour test drive with no issues byut ahh well....So all sorts of weird low voltage jaguar things went on. Chaned the alternator put ob about 200 or so miles now. No issues

NOW I had the car scanned today to pick up what the engine codes were. Unfortunately I lost the printout but this is what I recalled

So the codes. Unfortunately I lost the paper but there were three code and this is what I recall

1) Misfire left bank (mind you engine runs fine, Possibly when alternator went??)
2) Speed sensor failure or something of that nature (Possibly the TRAC/ASC/ABS lights? Transmisison??)
3) A code that was generic like P021111 or something like that with no description.

Figured maybe this all makes sence to someone. Im searching the message board now...I bought thid as a project so I dont mind working on it. Just need some help along the way

Many thanks!

Damon

Well looks like Ill be cleaning the speed sensors.

Also no restrive performance

Maybe I need to rescan for the misfire issue? Or could that be when my car was dying do to bad alternator and dying battery?

Like I said engine performance seems AOK

ABS issues can commonly also be caused by low voltage, as can other faults.

It worth getting an inexpensive code reader and clearing the codes...then see if any come back before doing any further work.

Here is the member's report on scanners: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/g...oved-**-33347/

I would suggest that you look at the ELM327 OBDII to BlueTooth converter with the TORQUE app for an Android phone . . . if you have an Android phone. The TORQUE software is available for a PC also.

Total cost is less than $20 and it will do everything and more than a $200 reader will do.

+1 test point. If you have a iPhone, get a ELM327 ODBII with WiFi, and the Dash Command App.. It is about $20 for the ODBII dongle and $10 for the app.

Hey Guys.

Well update. Today I installed my new muffler delete from Mina(no idea why people had issues instaling this), new Autolite XP Plugs (ones in there were pretty shot and I noticed one coil had been replaced) and cleaned all my ABS sensors.

Now I scanned my car with my buddys pretty expensive scanner and here are the codes I got

P0730 Incorrect gear ratio
P0171 System To lean Bank 1

So after doing the above work I cleared the codes drove around about 40 miles or so and no new codes or check engine light. My ABS light however is still on even after cleaning the sensors. The scanner I used checked all sorts of things however ABS wasnt one of them. Im not really to familiar with this car and its systems. What should I check and how? The sensors were dirty, cleaned them up and observed no frayed wires. Could that Incorrect gear ratio code hav esomething to do with this?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Also the amber light did not go off after clearing codes allthough that check engine light did. What does that mean? Car runs good. Even better with new plugs. Also would that amber light affect an OBDII inspection?

Again thanks

Well I am not trying to be a pain here however this car and its systems are new to me. Looks like I will check battery voltage before I look into anything further. Being I did have an alternator failure and had drained the battery......Even though I charged it and replaced the alternator these cars seem to not like things of that nature....That will be my next step..Still open for other suggestions as well:O)

Thanks a ton

If the battery drained, I'm surprised it didn't throw more codes. These cats need a steady voltage diet.

If the battery is fully charged, try doing a hard reset of the battery. Clear the codes and see if they return.

HArd reset is when I disconnect battery and keep neg and pos wires connected for 30 seconds or so correct? Currently there are no codes but the ABS light and amber light are still on.

Perhaps buying an xkr project was a bit to much for me at the moment!

Im used to problem child vehicles it adds to the excitement of ownership..But this is getting ridiculous:O)

SOOOOO voltage is 12.8 non running and 13.7 while running....My Amber light and ABS light went off tonight for about 20 minutes. My entire dash was light free!!!...Then the ABS and amber light came back on and kind of stayed on. Also the ABS light comes on when I start the car. Could it be the ABS module? Where is it located?

What do you all think?

Many thanks!

ABS system failures are common problems. After you have cleaned the sensors and checked for broken leads at the wheels, as you have, the next thing is addressing the ABS control board. It is not unusual to find broken solder joints for the external connector. Many have repaired by disassembly of the module and resoldering.

The Sticky at the top of this forum has several links to information on how to repair this issue. Page down to the start of the alphabetic list and ABS is the first subject.

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...ts-data-29800/

. . . and 13.7v is at the low end of OK. A free charging system review at most auto parts stores might be in order.

. . . and the 'amber light' is called a 'Check Engine Light' (CEL) or Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL).

If the Amber light is the actual MIL/CEL light Then what was that other orange thing that looked like an engine that was orange called? It turned off when I cleared the codes and hasnt come back on. Im doing my best here to read up on as much as I can but the search engine for the forum seems to not be faring well for me.

MANY THANKS!

The engine shaped orange signal is the CEL/MIL. Don't know what other light you are referring to. Maybe my car has just been too well behaved.

The vBulletin software that this forum and most others use has a very weak search function. Try searching from Google or other search engine starting with JaguarForums then the terms you are looking for. Works much better.

XxSlowPokexX, Here's a link to all the owners manuals, you might consider downlowding this if you don't have the originals with the car. It'll identify many items...

It appears someone already opened my ABS module. I resoldered even though they all looked good just in case.....STILL ABS light comes on and off. Next is to check OHMS across sensors tomorrow..ABS power plug was a bit corroded it seemed so I cleand that up as well.....I'm still trucking here..Oh and the CEL/MIL came back on......Time to check again. Have a feeling thats due to my transmission issue at this point. The P0730 code. Was nice to have no lights on for a few days:O)
