Ok I really need Help.
I hope im doing this right
Ive allways wanted a XK8 and just got one. Im not really a car guy just love the car and learning. The car runs good but on the dash I see lite up (Failsafe engine mode) and then it will change to (Stability controll fail)
I cant seem to find a manual and I dont know what to do. The car does not seem that powerfull. Do I have a computer problem? what is the computer called? Am I destin the for dealership/

I suggest you deal with the failsafe engine mode first and get the car running right. Then you can deal deal with the stability control issue.

Go to an Advanced auto or Autozone and have them read your fault codes for free. There is a little connector near the hood release that the code reader connects to. Or better yet, buy a code reader there. Take down the exact code numbers, 'Pxxxxx', not just the descriptions. Post the codes here and we will try to help you.

We will also need the model year of your XK8.

There are a lot of knowledgable helpful folks here...if you are willing to learn and get your hands a little dirty we can help you help yourself.

 

Hi Geoff, members more experienced than I will chime in soon, but your problem could be several things. Good news is most are not painful.

To diagnose, you need the error codes read. If you do not have a OBDII code reader, Autozone or one of the other parts houses do and they will check it for free. Make sure they give you the actual codes (Pxxxx), not just the suggested problem. Come back on the forum with those codes and the real experts here can help. I would have them check your battery while you are there. Low voltage on these cars causes many issues.

Look at the stickies at the top of the page and you will find links to the various XK8 manuals.

p.s. performance is down because the car thinks it has an issue and is keeping you from making it worse.
