Convertable Top Maintenance
Has anyone used Scotch Guard or other treatment on their top? I want to see if using something on the top would help keep the color andin the case of bird droppings from staining. I live in S. Texas where its almost always hot and sunny.

Those bird droppings will discolor the black top, found that out in one small spot this last summer. Otherwise, the german canvas (I presume) stays really black for being a texas raised car. I don't do anything different to protect mine.
I have used thisRaggTop product and was very pleased with the result. It will make a significant difference in both appearance and the ability to shed water. But . . . its use is not a simple spray on detail item.
The produce is paraffin wax and a solvent. Any overspray will require about three efforts to remove with a solvent. The first two will only evenly spread the wax. Thefinal effortmight get it all off but will take with it the wax that was meant to make the paint shine.
Point being; mask the car like you were going to paint it. That means all over, nose to tail.
Another issue is that the canvas must be as clean as possible or you are just sealing in the dirt and lint. RaggTop makes an appropriate product to handle that also. I used a soft scrub brush with the cleaner, vacuumed the canvas extensively and then used a lint roller completely up getting all the fuzz from the brush off.
I cannot comment of the expected life of the product but paraffin being the only active ingredient I would suggest that a summer of sunshine would pretty much evaporate the wax. One can will do a good job on the top but considering the masking effort I would suggest that another half can would not hurt.

I have also used Raggtop and using Test Points procedure. Great results. Never wash your top with car wash cleaners when washing your car. Just rinse it off.
