Default Convertible Safe Speeds

So I wasn't too sure where to post this.. But since I have an 06 xkr minus well.. My car is convertible, how fast is too fast with the windows down but top up? How fast is too fast with windows down top down? I commute 70 miles a day for work in the Florida heat. and I normally cruise at 70mph with windows down but the top up. So it would help to know if what I'm doing will f*** the car up. Thanks,

B.P.

I've done 125 with the top down. I never saw anything in the owners manual about a speed restriction. I think the top is going to stay on in any configuration no matter how fast you're going. The top speed is governor-limited to 155.

Now... whether that is "safe" or not is another question.

The reason I ask is because a good friend of mine has an 04 convertible vette, he said he had the windows down going 80 and the top lifted and wouldn't go down anymore.. 1300$ fix he said

I did 125 top down, but windows up. It's more about what you can tolerate rather than what the car can do, I think. Reverend Sam is correct about the speed governor and max speed. I remember that some publications even stated that their auto journalist have driven the car past 155 but maxed out at 161.

I did this as well recently (see attached) - at US 190. I don't advise anyone doing it. The circumstance at the time was exceptional - zero cars, sunny, no bends on the road, I can see the road about 1 mile ahead and open spaces on both sides. I had the boot cover on as well - and it stayed in place.

Funny that at that speed - the brain could go into overdrive and translated that I was going at least 51m per sec .... If an armadillo crossed the road at the time right in front of my car, I probably would not have time to react .....

Default Not that it is a contest...

But I had the R at 143 on I60 in Alabama or Tenn., top down, think the windows were up. There was more to give but blowing past a mini van with kids in it, like it was standing still brought me back to my senses.

It doesn't take much error at that speed...
