Default Convertible Top Conditioning

I thought I would post a few pictures of a task last weekend. I purchased a 3M 303 Fabric top kit as I wanted rain to bubble up as opposed to soak into my top.

Got the order in, masked the car off with plastic and applied the kit containing a cleaner and a water repellent liquid. Below are the pictures of prepping, drying then washing it. Love the way the water repels the water into beads.

I sprayed it on and next time I think I will use a small roller and apply it.

Great product. I used it roughly a month ago and it has made a huge difference in repelling water and sealing the top against other droppings. Unfortunately I was not as careful with my application and have since been trying to clean up the over spray.

303 is indeed a great product. I treat my wife's XK8's ragtop annually using about 16 ounces of product each time....

Tauni

How did you find the cleaner? Did it get the ingrained dirt out easily, or would you recommend using another brands cleaner product and then applying the 3M repellent?

and may I ask, why would a roller application be better?

I use the 303 product as well and have been very satisfied.

Last time I used a generic fabric cleaner because I was out of 303's product. It worked well. The key is to use a soft brush to work the cleaner in and loosen the dirt. Not a lot of pressure needed.

I have used the RAGGTOPP products in the past and been very satisfied with them. After all the discussion I ordered the 303 cleaner and water repellent product and have them in hand. Washed the car and got ready to use the new cleaner but the year old RAGGTOPP finish was still beading water . . . so . . . I put off the treatment.

Having used the RT and about to use the 303 I will provide an opinion shortly.

Sounds good! I like the positive comments here, especially about the water beading. This product is now on my "to get" list. Thanks for sharing.

Default Soft Top Cleaning & Conditioning

Thought I would share my experience today after reading Tauni_XK8 post on the 29th. I decided to jump in and clean & condition my soft top although I used RaggTopp so far am pretty happy with the results. I am now in the 48 hour period to get the maximum protection that's what the instructions said. Was a beautiful 76 degree day here in New England started around 10:30 ending around 1:00 mostly prep and waiting to dry times. I put three coats on should last me the season.
