Ah yes--those words that every XK8/XKR convertible owner will eventually utter. . .

I don't think Gus posted a price, and $300.00 is over Jaguar factory list price last time I checked for the factory hoses. PM me if you want a quote, seems they're more like $225 for the pair. I can usually ship them in 24 hours. I don't sell the factory repair kits, as they have proven to be less than 100% reliable.

Yes, in Northern Virginia the hose kit is $300.00 I priced it the other day. You will not see any hose that is worth installing much under $225 as Jagtech mentioned. The new hose will be available soon however it is over the $300 mark. You may want to look at purchasing just one hose, the one that was removed and did not fail and install it. However, you will be doing this again! Let me know if I can help.

The hyd system is one of the low points on this car. I will look at home to see if I have a used hose for you if that is what you want. We are evaluating the pump at the present time and answered several questions on the operation we had. Walter is gathering a great deal of information and hope to post soon. Have you taken a look at the info on my page?

Here is my question about this issue. Clearly, this is a significant problem with this vehicle. What is the nature of this failure? Does the hose rupture along its length, or at a fitting? Is there is more pressure in the line than it is capable of holding,or is it an eventual failure of the actual material the line is made of? Is it conceivable that if the pressure output by the pump were reduced somehow that the line might not fail? Is there anything that those of us who have yet to encounter this problem can do to try to avoid it? Thanks.

Please go to my page and read the information that I have available on the Hyd Roof sys. If you have questions feel free to ask and I will do my best to answer. As I said earlier the pump is being evaluated as we speak.

I understand! We have ALL been down this road and are still going. This car loves to be driven and I love driving it! I will check at home and see what I have. As a side note anyone having to change hyd hoses should try to get back the good hose and offer them when the request is posted.

You got that right, buddy.

Guys:
The cause of the failure is heat on the header unit from sitting in the sun. The roof of any car is damn hot, as you all know. Well going from cold to hot to cold causes them to become weak. This happens over time; I know alot of you park in the garage, but when you drive that roof is exposed. Seems kinda bogus, but the trips and driving adds up.

This is the status as of today:

Jaguar factory part number HJB 8256 AA is the pair of complete hoses.

Jaguar factory list price is $235.50 for the pair of hoses.

That part number is currently on backorder. My source has not received orders for this item placed on July 10, and has no ETA for their receipt of the hoses.

If Jagbits doesn't already have a pair on the shelf, they can't provide them either. I can try to locate a pair in a dealer's existing inventory, but I suspect that will be a bit of a long shot at present.

Vendors can obviously sell their wares for whatever they want: many dealers and parts re-sellers slap on a hefty profit margin. I sell at Jaguar list price. If I acquire this or any item from another dealer's existing inventory, we are both at the mercy of whatever pricing structure they choose to employ.

I believe I have one good used hose in stock if anyone is in need.

You can read about on my webpage if you wish. I am still looking for cheap!!! Jagbits has a hose for $289.00 on the web. I take that back it is not available right now. However the repair kit is for the same price. I myself will not recoment it. It has a high failure rate.

This could be a good sign. They (Jaguar) might be making a better hose...

I thought that was true when the splice kits went on backorder, and it didn't happen then.
