I installed the LSI relief valve in April 2010 with no problems. Yesterday I checked the pump fluid level and there was just a little pump oil in the area under the pump. It looks like I`ve got a VERY small leak at the fitting on the hose end that goes into the L shaped fitting on the pump ( this is the fitting you had to align, hammer or whatever to allow clearance for the LSI valve install). It is the hose end with the metal collar that is leaking. It is such a small seepage that my reservoir level was ok. For now I wrapped a small piece of a rag around the hose end ( such an elegant solution...I know!) and I`m just going to keep an eye on it. Can anyone tell me if the repair kit from Jaguar can be used to repair this hose??...thanks

I have only seen one hose that was leaking at the pump location; this is not the usual leakage spot. However leaking at the collar is not unusual and is the same on the roof latch. The repair kit that is no longer offered by Jaguar but by many be obtained by other sources and it may work now that the pressure is low but I am not sure. Most everyone who has used the repair kit has experienced another failure at the splice.

Hi Gus,
Do you happen to know where this hose terminates? I think it runs all the way to the roof latch.

Yes the hose goes from the pump to the latch. Let me ask you, is the leak at the point that the hose enters the collar or is it at the fitting to the pump?

Gus...it looks like it is at the point that the hose enters the collar. It is such a small leak at present that I think I`ll watch it for a while. If I`m not losing fluid fast I may just leave it as it is for the time being. I may have weakened the hose when I manipulated the pump to install the relief valve. It was not leaking before I installed the valve. ):

For further discussion of the voltage reduction method, please see this link here.

I was reading about latch hose failures before I bought this car over 4 years ago, and can't really say I'm excited to finally join hydraulic fluid shower club. Actually, mine is just a heavy ooze at this point but was enough to lay a nice splat on my leg during a cloverleaf freeway entry. With so few road curves in Oklahoma I try to savor each one!

Welcome to the party! It's funny, on another forum that is more UK membership I mentioned about the "green monster" and one of the members emailed me saying that hydraulic convertible line problems were almost unheard of in the UK. I told him that most convertible owners on the US-leaning forum here have had hose failure. The only thing he could figure was that due to weather there the convertibles are operated much less often than here.

Welcome Mike, who knows if the pressure reducing systems invented will have saved you from this unfortunate event, but hey...now we've got you as a member, and we need to take something away good from this.

Thanks for the welcome! I've followed the development of the pressure regulator system - it looks like a great addition and is on my upgrade list. It could very well have extended the life of my hoses.

For now, I ordered new factory hoses from Nalley. Not only did I receive professional and efficient service, but I got a 15% discount and free shipping to boot.

In planning my weekend project I'm working to line up fabric to recover the A post and header closeouts and a pair of subwoofers, since I'll bet mine are past their prime.

could be cashmere, oatmeal, or butterscotch (not reallly, I just made that last one up) Look up your three digit trim code from your door jam for the 'proper' identification if you're bored.

appreciate the offer though.

Matt, w/ flappy a-pillars.

New hoses installed today. What a PITA! Plus, I found a bunch of filth that needed to be dealt with, had to zip in to work for a bit, etc., so I spent the day with it. Still need to cover trim pieces, but I'll get them done during the week. It's nice to have it fixed, a serious layer of grime removed from the interior, and know that my hoses are good for a while. Now I need to install my eccentric lower A arm bolts so the shop can finish aligning the front end.

Default Martin

I'm taking the day off to work on the wind screen. My wife and I agree that we don't know where it is but it must need attention. Ive cleaned the winshied real good in case that may have some relationship. We looked around the engine air intake to see where the things that get screened-out might go. No dice. We are puzzled why our other cars don't have wind screens. My nieghbor suggusted I go to the dealer and ask him about it. He suggested that I drived backwards incase my windscreen is disabled. That way nothing will escape being screened. I think I will e-mail the pay-for-guestions guys; theres a guy named MoLash over there. I bet he could figure this out.

windscreen...what are you talking about Martin? windscreen=windshield doesn't it? This thread is about the convertible top hose failure/repair.

see where the things that get screened-out might go
I have no idea what you are referring to? engine air filter? cabin air filter?

Gordo,

I think I got the bolts from Jagbits @ $22 each. Of course I can't find them right now, but I'll double check and let you know for sure.

I’m with you Matt; I have no idea what this is about. Not related to the roof needs to go on new post.

Default Upgrades?

I'm new to the forum, and have tried to understand this hose failure problem. Am I correct in assuming that new Jaguars are subject to eventual failure, or did they finally locate an upgraded hose? Are the replacement hoses they have been selling of better quality? This problem sounds like something out of the sixties.
