Default Coolant

Hello,

I am looking for a consensus….
I bought a few gallons of “pink extended life” coolant because it says it is for jag and range rovers.
Q: IS THIS GOOD FOR MY 2005 XKR’s & XJR ?
…traditionally, it is supposed to be orange in color.

Kind regards,

Max, XKRFACE, The Tramp & Tres

It needs to meet the required specs. What specs are posted on the container's label?

On my 2002 XKR the coolant reservoir states that orange coolant is to used.

is there a stipulated coolant type listed on your reservoir ?

I would use the type listed. It is exceedingly difficult to remove all existing coolant, which would be required before using a different type.

Default A suggestion

If you go to the Prestone web site they can show you the products that are for your car. The specs in the workshop manual are out dated and were for a specific Ford product. If you look at the specs Prestone has then any coolant matching those specs should be ok. Some are pink, some are orange.

A website won’t reveal what is in the car now. Only an inspection will inform the owner what is going to be compatible with the existing coolant.

Of course, if the owner is willing to fully drain the cooling system, including the block and heater core, etc. of the existing coolant, then an up to date website might be useful.

I'm not sure that the colour is necessarily a reliable indicator nowadays:- it's the spec. that's important.

I have a litre of Jaguar coolant that looks pinky-orange in the container (honest) and a litre of Ford Premium plus that looks yellowy-green, but meets the WSS... spec. The original DOW would be green AFAIK and definitely shouldn't be mixed with the later spec coolant.

As zray says, it's what's in there now that's key. If you can't establish that for certain, then I'd recommend a full flush cycle before refilling with the newer spec.
I followed Mr Texas Dan's tutorial (attached), although note that his choice of coolant is apparently incorrect.

A new OEM coolant reservoir carries a label stating the WSS spec must be used, which could pose a problem for someone acquiring an early car that was still filled with DOW...
