Default Coolant Sensor Retaining Clip Solved

I changed the Coolant Reservoir in my 2005 XK8. While trying to put the retain clip back on the sensor plug it fell into the engine compartment. I can't find it. I can't find a part number for this clip. Anyone know the part number for the clip or have one to sell? Drove car a couple of time back in forth in driveway and clip fell on driveway.

Always a good idea to encircle that plug with an old washcloth when removing that metal clip. If the clip decides to take a flyer, chances are the washcloth will catch it. Another good trick is to pull the metal clip out slightly, then tie a string to it before completely removing it....

The 'clip' is supposed to be DEPRESSED at the slot in the plastic and should never be removed!!!!!!!!!!

The 'spring-action' and design of the plastic connector makes the 'clip' spread to enable connector removal.

Some fuel injector harness connectors use the same style clip.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but you don't remove the clips on these kinds of connectors. You push in the "top" of the clip, which causes the side to sort of expand, releasing the catches. Then you wiggle the thing loose. When reconnecting you push the connector onto the receiving end until the clip clicks into place.

Thanks. It would be much easier to reinstall the plug if you can put the clip on before you put it on the reservoir sensor. Just in case I have a piece of thread tied to the clip in case I drop it again.

When I remove a reservoir I DO NOT remove the sensor. I simply place a pocket screwdriver on the steel retainer and press it into the slot in the connector.
The harness connector is disconnected and reservoir displaced or removed.

No need to make it more complicated!!!!!!!!!!
