Default Coolant temperature

My 2005 XKR is not providing real time temprature of engine coolant via my ELM 327 and torque command. Torque shows it is connected to the EMS but no data.
Does this mean the coolant temperature sensor is defective and if so where is it located in the engine compartment? The dash gauge appears to be working, goes from cold to mid gauge position although I realize it is next to useless.

If the temperature gauge moves, then the sensor is at least reading something. What it shows it based on that sensor, just has a big dead spot in the middle where something like 180-220F shows as the midpoint.

The sensor is on the cross over pipe that runs over the supercharger snout. Pretty easy to get to if you did need to change it.

Something's faulty: elm327 / DLC (socket) / wiring / fuse(s) / etc. Work through the things involved. (Not the PCM, which clearly works.)
