Correct brand and weight of oil to lubricate o-rings when installing fuel injectors

Talking Correct brand and weight of oil to lubricate o-rings when installing fuel injectors

I just re-installed the fuel injectors and used Valvoline 10w-30 full synthetic to lubricate the o-rings, but after I got it back together I started to worry.

Is the intake manifold going to dissolve because I didn't use the super expensive Jaguar branded oil? Should I have also corrected the weight for ambient temperature?

The writeup that I read didn't mention any specific type...only a little clean motor oil to lubricate. I haven't had any problem with my injector reinstall after a couple months. You too, will be just fine.

The O rings will love your Valvoline.

I'll admit,the post was a joke, but the funny bit was that the thought really did occur to me, and I just had to share.

Not so much in the sense that it was a real worry, but it did seem like the sort of thing Jaguar would specify.

Thou art commanded to use this type of oil, of this weight specification and the component may only be installed only on the 13th day of the 4th month by a left handed technician named Bob.

Well, the bad news is TSB 6/0403 'Engine Failure due to Injector O ring Lubrication'
To quote
'catastrophic engine failure has occurred when mineral oil was used to lubricate injector O rings.
This caused dissolution of the Polyolefin thread locking compound securing the injector nozzles allowing them to fall into the cylinder'

Hang on now ... the discussion is incomplete without full consideration of the octane of the fuel and presence of ethanol in the fuel that is intended to flow through said injectors.
