cosmetic issues
I all-am looking at an 03 vert that has relatively low miles(62K) and runs well, but has tons of cosmetic issues. needs top, seat covers. the two things I'm not sure how to tackle are the top of the drivers door where the vinyl trim is peeling off and the center console, where the sun has fried the top of the lid. are these pieces available to purchase or is this something that the upholstery shop would have to fabricate? sorry, i don't have pictures. I've attached the CL ad, which does show the console partially.

Door trims can be had from the same source for $75 and up.

From what I can see the drivers seat is bad shape. If you are happy driving a car with a patch in the top and paint damage, it still needs seat covers. You can buy good quality leather covers, including center console, from topsonline.com for $700 or less and if you can do the installation yourself save $500 to $1000 additional.
But if you want to have a quality car you should probably pass. I generally buy the bargain cars due to a lack of income, but there is very little I can't do in the way of repairs. You need to be properly equipped to to take on a bargain Jag.

I am astounded that a presumably "one owner" car with only about 62,000 miles in San Diego of all places could look like such crap. Also notice the rust on the inside of the engine compartment. It was either not a one owner car of, it it was, then it was an owner who didn't give a crap.

As a rule, I would avoid Jaguars with 'cosmetic' issues.
Trims items for the XK8/XKR were the first to disappear from Jaguar inventory. Where parts are still available new, they are expensive. The used spares sources know this and set their prices accordingly.
Having said that, the repairs to this one aren't difficult provided you can buy the vehicle at the right price. I'd be thinking about $2k less than the vendor has in mind.
