Default Cracked Door?

Just got a call from the body shop. My drivers side door hangs low and is out of alignment with the body. Slight popping sound when opening. Window drop and raise function doesn't work right.

First the body shop said I needed new hinges. However they just called and said the reason for the issue is that the door is 'cracked'. Anyone ever hear of such a thing?

My confidence in the shop is low at this point and I'm getting ready to go down there and see what they are talking about. But any feedback I can get here beforehand would be helpful.

Thanks all.

Your instinct is right...go down there and put your eyes on it. Take a close-up photo or two for your forum buddies, post them up here and let us take a look as well.

Good luck to you...my driver's door hangs a bit low in back as well, but no popping.

Been down to the shop and back, but alas, took no pics. Where the door mates to the hinge (I think it was the bottom hinge) there is definitely a stress crack a good two inches wide. There is also a stress bulge on the outer door skin but can only be felt at this point - not really visible.

The shop is going to buttress and weld up the broken area and then paint it. Only charging me $300 for the repair which I thought was more than fair.

That would certainly make me more than a little suspicious as to exactly when the door had been stressed to cause such damage.

Unfortunately, without recent photos, you've little option other than to go with the proposed repair.

I could see the door was tweaked when I bought it 2-3 months ago so do not consider the shop to be suspect. Someone must have opened it at some point and then leaned against it or sat on it. Not bright.

The joys of buying a car online....

Good that you know it wasn't the shop.

Unhappy

The last time i see this on vehicle, the customer was reversing with the door slightly open and hit a low level post pushing the door forward.
The bulge is where the hinge bottomed out on the A post.
Whoops !!!!
