Default Crash safety ratings?

What are the crash ratings for our XK8s and Rs? IIHS? NHTSA? I can't seem to find the ratings for these cars anywhere.

I'm asking for two reasons. I was rear ended last Monday and absolutely nothing happened to the car. All it needs is a small paint job to the rear bumper. The car will be going to the shop next week. The other reason is that I am watching Top Gear UK, in one of the episodes they talk about safety and they show the difference between 5 star, 4 star and 3 star cars. I'm now curious and rather worried by the complete lack of info on the safety ratings for these beautiful Jags. They seem to be as hard as cement, but that isn't any guarantee for my safety now is it?

It may simply mean they weren't tested, due to low production numbers. I am curious too, but don't have high hopes of an answer. But someone will be along shortly with a better input than mine.

I don't know either, but keep in mind that NO convertible will ever score very well in comprehensive crash tests. That said, these cars are rather heavy and may do better than expected in certain crash angles (particularly in front given the extra-long hood)....

I have just done a quick search on the IIHS website and it appears our cars were not rated. Of course, that could just mean they weren't tested.

I agree, I think the production numbers were too low to test. Your 2000 has front airbags and seatbelt pretensioners . Unforunately, side airbags were not introduced on the XK8/R until 2001. With the aluminum body introduction in 2007, the cars got pop-up emergency rollover bars.

Big body? Check. Airbags? Check. ABS? Check.

I'm afraid they're too pretty for me to really care... Certainly safer than I think my old 944 Turbo sans-airbags (first year) was! That's what helped me sell the idea to the wifey.

You awakened my curiosity so I checked out Euroncap. Only two Jags tested, XF and X-type, both achieved 4 stars out of 5.

I'm planning to bring my XK8 Convertible to a few race tracks. But it will be easy rides, for fun and to learn handling. For more serious chronometer chases I'd go XKR coupe at all times.

4 out of 5 for the XF and the X-type? Not bad. Let's just give our cars a hypothetical 4 out of 5 or 5 out of 5 and stop worrying.
