Default Cruise not available, check rear lights

OK, this has been beaten to death but it is my 1st time at bat. Orange light on dash came on and the infamous "cruise not available, check rear lifts" message shows. Cruise contro not working. Stopped at a friend and checked codes. None. All clear. Started it up, not mesage, no light and cruise works. Come on experts. Is this an indication the brake switch is going out or is the demons of Jaguar just want to torment a fine, upstanding Southern boy?

^^ What he said....

Be sure to line up a 9-year-old neighborhood kid to do the dirty work upside-down underneath the dash while you handle the engine side of the job. And remove the drivers seat first - the kid will have so much more room under there....

Let's not jump to conclusions just yet. My XJ8 did this and it was a rear side marker bulb out because of a corroded socket. Check all rear bulbs first. They should be all the same brand and proper wattage. If any bulb is darker than the others, change it. Your message could be correct, a bulb is faulty.
