Default CRUNCHED- 2000 XKR -Need right red leaper badge

Good morning XK8/R Land!

I've been offline for some time (not car related - work & school related), and have missed being here. Lurked on my phone some late nights, but haven't really kept up in a few months.

9/11/2012 I bought gas for my XKR. Not earth shattering, but as I sat there, parked at the pump, entering fuel data into my phone (Fuel Log app is handy), my car suddenly lurched sideways.

A 32 year old driver with neither license nor insurance clipped my XKR with his Chevy S10. Well, sort of scraped down my car's passenger's side. He said most of the scrapes along his driver's side were already there. Really??? Hmmmm... Is that a clue?

Damaged my right side mirror, door, fender, badge (leaper), bumper cover, and we'll see if the wheel was damaged once the car is put back together tomorrow.

Good news - took it to a body shop that does all the local dealer's work, as well as Porsche and BMW, so they know how to work on nice cars. They are certified to work on aluminum Jaguars.

When they couldn't find a fender right away, they asked if they could do the metal work and straighten the original one (since it is steel and I want my car ready to go to New England). They are doing a fabulous job with it.

I was going to keep the damaged leaper badge as a souvenir. Today the shop manager said he won't give it to me. They can't find a replacement! Found one in Arizona, but when he called they said they sold it three hours earlier.

Anyone know where I might find a right fender leaper badge in red?

Want it to look good for my upcoming trip to New England to see the fall colors.

I would post pictures, but am having trouble doing so.

David, not sure if you found your badge - I found a missing red wheel center on ebay. Here is a current auction to a left fender red leaper badge, it might help your search:

Jaguar Xk8 XKR RED Left Fender Wing Badge Leaper Emblem HJD5771AA | eBay

David,

Sorry to hear about the damage caused by the idiot in the Chevy.

Hope the repairs erase all evidence of the incident and you are able to obtain a replacement badge to complete the work in time for your trip.

(HINT - you won't forget to take a camera with you and post some pics?)

Picked up the car late on a Friday afternoon and it was WONDERFUL to be back in it. When I went to ready it on Sunday for the big trip, I noticed overspray on the windshield, and the headlights, then even on all the nice dark surfaces under the bonnet! Getting less happy.
They may have rushed to make sure I had the car for my trip. Breathe, and deal with it when we return.

I've read about problems others have had with moisture in the headlights, and been grateful I've not had that happen. Second day of the 3-week trip I noticed it. Then I noticed that the black seal around the lights was sticking out where it didn't before. Hmmm.

Now I'm looking closer and is that gap between the bonnet and bumper bigger on one side? Arrggghhhh

Car is running well, even though we've abused it by packing in too much and driving over ROUGH roads of New England.

Finally have some sunshine and the top won't operate. I did top up the fluid before the trip and had no trouble before. Scouring the forum for solutions.

In 2700 miles I've taken about 1900 pictures. Will certainly have some to share.

Sent from Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.
