Default Curb alert front parking sensor

Has anyone tried this product, or similar?

Open this page

Backup Sensors

then click "Curb Alert Parking Sensor"

I can't count the number of times I've run into a curb or parking block
with my old XK8.

Would like to avoid this with my newer XKR.

This product looks pretty cool, but a little pricey. Any other
recommendations?

This has to be great for xk's with lowered or custom front ends.

I think this is one of those opportunities for the inventors on our Forum
to come up with a cheaper, sleeker solution.

Perhaps something that is wired into the back up sensor beeper?

The last thing I invented was a watermelon mojito.

It hit 109 degrees in Dallas today. The mojitos were blazing.

In the 1950's, I remember seeing these wound metal 'curb feelers' on my grandpa's Cadillac passenger side lower wheel arches to rub against the curbs to keep my grandma from destroying the tires. I guess electronics replace the OLD technology mechanical devices!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After taking off my first lower valence strip, I practiced on 'dummy' curbs (shoeboxes) to get a good feel for how close I can get the nose to a curb, or wheelstop and repeatedly p on getting my tires just inside parking lines, then I felt confident about taking those end stalls next to medians and islands. Just like driving, you have to know where your tires are at all times so you can calmly miss potholes, debris, small animals, etc. I re-test myself in non-critical times whenever I get the chance.

Those curb feelers were so cool back in the day, all the caddies had 'em, not sure if they were senior citizens or other stereotypical caddy owners.

Ed, I have decided to take this one on! Some of the design goals:
-Easy installation, no drilling, painting or aligning
-Invisible
-No protrusions below the bumper to get knocked off or thrown out of alignment
-Fully integrated, and automatically switched on based on detecting parking speeds in conjuction with braking
-Manual operating mode using existing steering wheel switches
-Reliable
-Affordable
-Custom designed and optimized for the XK8/XKR...not a generic aftermarket solution.

For the moment this is a teaser...it is going to be several months until I have a product.

Oh yeh!!!This would be great tied into the existing backup sensor system. My sepangs and I would jump on this. I could see this sitting under the christmas tree.

edtexas, I use the drop down feature for the passenger mirror. Haven't scraped a tire yet. I wish I had the back up distance warning my wifes '07 x-type has. I think the really new models have this feature in the front and the back. Jack

I fit parking sensors in nearly every rear bumper and some front, I use something similar to THESE

No holes, no unsightly sensors, and works, does pay to have a good quality kit, there are some cheap versions on eBay that have malfunctioned and I no longer entertain.

I have not had a problem with Parking Dynamics, but by far the best were made by Delphi but I can no longer get them!

Put me down for this one as well. Between this and the power steering mod, I'll have my winter booked. Dito on this forum, without a doubt, the best forum on the Internet. Thanks WhiteXKR.

I believe that all the cars marketed in the US are fitted with the rear ultrasonic sensors from the factory.

I have also heard that the Parking Dynamics units work reasonably well. My plan is actually not to design this from scratch if possible, but use either the Parking Dynamics or another brand electrmagnetic type detection unit, and add some circuitry for an automatic start-up mode, integrate it to some steering wheel buttons for manual operation and optimize the performance for the XK.

OK, I stand corrected. My 2001 brochure shows it as standard, that must have been the first year.

That makes sense with the minor front and rear bumper redesign.

WAY TO GO! When I install the remote top enhancement, the power steering modulator and the front proximity sensor I'll have to add pages to the owners manual.
