Default Dash lights

Does anyone have the part(s) numbers on the bulbs for the main instument panel. I have heard they come with holders and can be pricey. Can you get the bulbs only at an auto supply store or is the dealer the only source?
Thanks

They do come from Jaguar complete with holders:

Part Number LJA 4390 BA

I replaced mine with Jaguar ones instead of going down the 'bulb only' route only because the holder had clearly overheated:

Cost last year in the UK was £4.00 ($6.14) each but this is no indication of what a California dealer may charge!

If it is the larger backlight bulbs that are out, a 158 or 194 will work, available at any auto parts store. The 194 is just slightly brighter, but also hotter.

Dave, I know you recently had your instrument cluster out. If you have not driven the car much, try driving for a couple of weeks and the bulbs may 'magically' start working again.

I know it sounds weird, but the filaments on these old bulbs sometimes get dislodged when the cluster is taken out of the dash and turned over and often fall back into there 'set' postion once the cluster is put back and they undergo the vibration of some driving.

Steve,
Thanks for tip. I was aggravated that I didn't replace them when I had the cluster out. I'll give it some time.

I ordered them at amazon, very inexpensive, got the bulbs only. When you remove the cluster, use pliers to gently, slowly twist the holder counter clockwise to release from the instrument cluster, then the bulb easily pulls out of the holder, push the new bulb in, and set the holder back on the cluster hole and twist clockwise. Sounds simple when I write it, but I was not sure exactly how to remove the holder from the cluster the first time. Replace all bulbs, not just the burnt out ones. Search amazon for Wagner BP161 Miniature Lamp, if you are a prime member, shipping is free for prime items. I had no bulbs burnt out until I pulled the instrument cluster to install the real gauge, and I would recommend replacing them whenever pulling the cluster. I now have a second set on hand just in case.

Are you sure of 158. Steve? My amazon account shows I purchased 161 bulbs, not 158's

3 years ago, a good rap on the dash re-lit one behind the tackometer. It 'appeared after the audio shop did some work on the video switch to the nav. Steve's voodoo has merit, it can return from the grave.

I found damage to the board where two of my IP bulb holders connect (damaged - arrowed in red)

The solder was worn or melted away.

Reflowed the section (repaired - arrowed in blue) and it's been OK for nearly a year now.

This kind of damage could explain intermittent failure of bulbs which can be rectified by a rap on the IP.

Anyone had luck changing bulbs in cluster of 2008 VDP? I understand you have to remove the centre console to remove the wood panel! This is just plain ridiculous.

Has anyone gone with LED? I replaced my XJS lights with green LED and it was literally like night and day!! It was a pain but worth it.

I think Rev Sam did but changed them back. I think it was too dim but not positive.
