Default Stalled and restricted performance

Today, I was having a bit of an open top road trip with my sister and my mother along the scenic coastal roads of the island. During the trip at low speeds, almost idle, the car stalled. When I started it again, I got the restricted performance warning with the amber light. After 10 minutes the warning was gone. I haven't been able to get to the codes yet. So I don't know what's wrong. I'm wondering, could it be that some of my spark plugs are dying?

The iridium plugs on these cars should last 100K. More likely, an air leak, a bad coil or two or a throttle body problem. The codes will help alot.

P1384
P1396
P1642
P1000

Actually I do not think it is nearly as bad as it looks.

P0171, P0174 is likely a leak in your air intake or a faulty MAFS. This is also likely cause of the restricted performance light.

P0455 is an fuel evap system leak. This one can be ignored or put off unless you have an impending emissions inspection or you smell gas fumes. A new fuel filler cap is the first cheap fix to try.

P1396 and P1384 are VVT solenoid faults. I think it is unlikely that they both failed. Are the VVT solenoid cables ( 2 wire connectors on the front top of each valve cover ) plugged in? If they are in place I suspect the codes might have been set if they were unplugged during service and may not come back if you reset codes.

P1642 is a CANbus fault. It might have been set during past service. Again on this one I would say reset the codes and see if it returns.

P1000 is not an issue.

Visual inspection of hoses and intake tube is a good place to start, looking for cracks, holes and vacuum lines that might have come off.

You can inspect the MAF sensor for obvious dirt or oil contamination, then try cleaning it carefully.

If you have a code reader, ultragauge or something that can show the short term fuel trim, you can spray MAF cleaner at things and watch for the STFT to go crazy. You can find pretty small leaks this way.

See if this helps you

Start with the P0171 & P0174 first then move on...

I cleaned the MAFS, it had a lot of black gunk. While I was at it, I removed the air intake hose. **** me, the accordeon part of the intake hose that faces the engine has a lot of slits. I'm guessing that explains my problem. Until I can order a new part, I'm going to have to seal the slits with some silicon and cover it up with black tape.

What should I expect to pay for that hose?
Aftermaket?

So far, I've driven the car for a while and I haven't had the restricted engine message. The car also feels somewhat more responsive. I'll be buying a new intake pipe, but I wonder, could this be a good opportunity to buy a ram or cold air intake kit? Are there any advantages to that?

I haven't been able to go get the codes erased and read again to see if I still have the CANbus fault, or the solenoid faults. As for the fuel leak, I have to say that I have been smelling a faint fuel smell after about an hour or so of driving.

Well, yeah. That would certainly throw some codes. Good thing it's an easy fix.

Yep. And I'm glad it's not expensive either! I'm awaiting for the part to be shipped over from Gaudin Jaguar. Can't beat the $50 price. My current air filter is new so it makes no sense to install a ram/cold air intake filter until my current one craps out.

I had the codes checked again today, the only one that was read is P1000, so I guess all is good.
